The Sonoma County Historical Records Commission is now accepting nominations for their 2025 Collections and Archives Recognition Awards. This award recognizes the accomplishments and contributions of individuals, groups, agencies, collections and archives located within Sonoma County. Nominees located within the boundaries of Sonoma County and practicing the collection and preservation of historical records for the promotion of history and cultural preservation qualify for the award. Sonoma County partners with local Fire Districts to offer free wildfire resiliency workshops ahead of peak wildfire season

Sonoma County residents are invited to attend free online workshops this August and September to learn about practical steps for protecting their homes and communities from wildfire.Hosted by Sonoma County’s Fire Prevention Division, in partnership with local fire districts, the one-hour webinars will cover home hardening, defensible space, insurance considerations, local resources, and how to sign up for a free wildfire risk assessment. Sonoma County creates online hub to help communities reduce wildfire risk

Sonoma County today announced the launch of SonomaCountyResilient.org, a new website that makes it easier than ever to find information and funding for land management projects that reduce wildfire risk and protect local ecosystems. The website will serve as a one-stop hub for residents, landowners, resource managers and organizations seeking technical assistance, funding and practical tools for local forest and watershed management projects. Remembering those lost to drug overdoses at Aug. 30 overdose awareness event

An average of 12 people die each month in Sonoma County from drug overdoses, which is the third highest rate among Bay Area counties. With fentanyl having emerged as a stealth drug often unknowingly mixed into other drugs, the situation has only become more dire. To raise awareness of the dangers of overdosing, the Sonoma County Department of Health Services invites the public to attend a free special event that will include music, art, food, demonstrations of overdose prevention tools and a display of classic lowriders from the Latin Rollers Car Club.  Read full story

Walmart Settles Consumer Protection Case for Scanner Price Overcharges and False Advertising

Sonoma County District Attorney, Carla Rodriguez, along with the District Attorneys of San Diego, San Bernardino, and Santa Clara Counties, announced today the settlement of a consumer protection lawsuit against Walmart. The defendant will pay $5,639,801.92 to settle a civil law enforcement complaint alleging that Walmart engaged in false advertising and unfair competition in California. Read full story

Charles M. Schulz — Sonoma County Airport announces non-stop service to Palm Springs on Alaska Airlines

Charles M. Schulz – Sonoma County Airport today announced that Alaska Airlines will add Palm Springs as a non-stop destination from STS. The popular route will operate seasonally, with service commencing in October and ending in May of each calendar year. The first flight is scheduled for Oct. 26. Alaska Airlines will service Palm Springs with five weekly round-trip flights, utilizing their 76-seat Embraer 175 aircraft. Read full story
