Sonoma County Fairgrounds to host wildfire and earthquake preparedness expo on June 1

The public and media are invited to attend a free wildfire and earthquake preparedness expo at the Sonoma County Fairgrounds on Sunday, June 1. The event will offer hands-on opportunities to learn how County and municipal emergency response teams work together to keep people safe during wildfires and earthquakes. County Department of Health Services to receive $67.7 million in state awards for enhancing behavioral health infrastructure

California is modernizing its behavioral health delivery system to improve accountability, increase transparency and expand the capacity of behavioral health care facilities for Californians. To this end, the Behavioral Health division of the Sonoma County Department of Health Services has been awarded $67.7 million through the California Department of Health Care Services’ Proposition 1 “Bond BHCIP Round 1: Launch Ready” for projects that support behavioral health infrastructure. BHCIP supports the creation, renovation and expansion of facilities that serve individuals with mental health and behavioral health needs. Read full story

Board of Supervisors approves list of SB1 infrastructure projects for 2025-26 fiscal year

The Sonoma County Board of Supervisors today approved a list of local streets and road projects to be completed during the 2025-26 construction seasons using more than $14.5 million in anticipated revenue from SB1, the Road Repair and Accountability Act. The state’s SB1 Road Maintenance and Rehabilitation Account is derived primarily from per-gallon fuel excise taxes. All SB1 funds go to infrastructure repair and improvement projects, in alignment with the Resilient Infrastructure pillar of Sonoma County’s Five-year Strategic Plan. Read full story

Board of Supervisors approves replacement of Geysers Road bridge over Frasier Creek

The Board of Supervisors today approved plans and specifications for the replacement of the Geysers Road bridge that spans Frasier Creek east of Cloverdale. The existing bridge was identified by Caltrans as functionally obsolete and structurally vulnerable to failure during a major earthquake. The new two-lane bridge is designed to meet current standards including improvements to roadway approaches, travel lanes and road shoulders.  Read full story
