Sonoma County Probation Supports Special Olympics!

Published: July 01, 2025

On March 1, 2025, Probation staff participated in the Sonoma County Polar Plunge at Doran Beach which raised a total of $54,345 for local Special Olympic athletes.  Probation won the best costume contest dressed as unicorns.

On June 23, 2025, Probation staff participated in the Law Enforcement Torch Run® (LETR) to support and fundraise for the Special Olympics. The LETR is the largest public awareness vehicle and grass-roots fundraiser for Special Olympics. Known honorably as Guardians of the Flame, law enforcement members and Special Olympics athletes carry the “Flame of Hope” into the Opening Ceremony of local, regional, state and world competitions. Annually, over 110,000 dedicated and compassionate law enforcement members carry the “Flame of Hope,” symbolizing courage and celebrating diversity, uniting communities around the globe. Probation’s team raised $4,660 for the Special Olympics this year with Northern California raising $336,262!

Thank you to the Sheriff's Office for including us and coordinating the event and for the District Attorney’s Office for joining us on the run. Chief Fuchs will be representing the Probation Department at the Summer Games.

Special Olympics Northern California offers free year-round sports training and competitions for more than 27,000 participants along with inclusive school’s initiatives, critical health and wellness programs and leadership training.
